Brand guideline

Before creating the first issue of this magazine, it was important to discuss and narrow down key elements such as our target demographic, typeface colour palette, and overall content direction. Given Toronto's diverse culture, we decided to highlight its food and drink scene, along with featuring some iconic buildings around the city.
Learning outcomes
While this wasn't the first publishing related project I worked on, it pushed me in new ways especially when it came to colabborating with a larger team to make sure our work aligned with a shared vision. Unlike past projects where I had more creative freedom, this one required me to follow specific magazine guidelines like pages, sizes, margins, and type safety, which taught me to approach the design in a more structured and refined way.

Learning outcomes
This project came with its fair share of challenges, but it was incredibly rewarding in the end. While I had some experience with Adobe XD, Figma was new to me. Learning a new tool within a short timeframe was challenging at first, but after looking up some tutorials and playing around on my own, I was able to become comfortable with the software.
Bringing together the knowledge I had gained throughout my academic career and applying it to this capstone project pushed me in a positive way. Although the project focused on building upon my existing knowledge and skills, I also learned a lot along the way. From collaborating effectively with teamates to finding creative solutions to problems both independently and as a group.
